A Dinner Date with Arthur + Go-To Yogurt Rolls

Thursday

Arthur’s Thursday started off at 6am. His dad was not thrilled, to say the least, but he still fed Arthur a solid solid breakfast, probably mostly to pass the time. The lucky duck got more of Mama’s orzo-grits-lentil dish, a peach, and nearly half a mango. Apparently he was really into the mango, and probably would’ve eaten more if his pops had let him.
Arthur was in a surprisingly good mood for most of the morning, despite the early start. He came close to falling asleep on me during his 8:00 breakfast, though I startled him enough when I coughed that he changed his mind. He made up for it at his 10:00 nursing session, though, where it took him all of two minutes to fall asleep, and he stayed asleep for over an hour and a half. He probably would have slept even longer if I hadn’t woken him up.
A well-rested Arthur was in a pretty sweet mood for the early afternoon. For his afternoon snack, he had some more slices of tofu, followed by another serving of the most recent orzo-grits-lentil iteration, with some peanut butter mixed in to make it more appealing. Arthur ate a reasonable amount, but didn’t have a huge appetite. However, he did have a huge thirst, and drank quite a bit of water from his sippy cup! He also spit out quite a bit of water, so he got a second bath for the day!
I will say, Arthur has really begun to react to things being taken away from him. Today, he basically threw three tantrums when a vitamin bottle, sunscreen tube, and water bottle lid were taken away from him, respectively. Poor little tyke.
Anyways, Arthur didn’t take a nap during his 3:00 nursing session, but I didn’t really expect him to - his morning power nap was clearly going to tide him over for a while. I was more surprised that he didn’t nap during his 4:00 walk with his dad or during his 5:00 nursing session. I guess that was one heckuva morning nap!
Arthur grew fussier and fussier as the evening wore on, and his lack of sleep caught up to him. I can’t say he was in the best spirits at dinner time, but he did have a good appetite! He finished off the tofu slices as well as the sweet potato slices, and had room for a shot glass full of my lentil-orzo-grits dish as well! By the time he got to my boob for dessert, he was drifting off, and ready for a good night’s sleep.
So, Arthur’s Thursday tastes consisted of:
peach
mango
Mama’s Yum-Yum (whole-wheat orzo, corn grits, red lentils, toasted sesame oil, garlic-infused olive oil, green onion, yellow bell pepper purée, ginger powder, onion powder)
tofu
peanut butter
sweet potato
Friday
It was another fairly early morning for Arthur on Friday: a 6:30 wakeup. And, like the previous day, he ate a peach and another portion of my lentil-orzo-grits dish with his dad while they were waiting anxiously for some booby action.
Once again, Arthur came close to drifting off when I nursed him at 8:00, but background noises were too distracting, so he waited until his 10:30 nursing session to have a proper nap. And yes, once again, it was proper - just over an hour.

Despite having just woken up from a long nap, Arthur was in a pretty grumpy mood for the later morning/early afternoon. He threw tantrum after tantrum when he wasn't easily able to access items that interested him. I can't say I was thrilled; I thought the tantrums weren't supposed to start for at least another year! Still, by placing one of these items he wanted (my coffee mug) on the bed within arm's reach, I was able to incentivize him to stand while holding on to the bed for support. I had to lift him into the standing position, but still, once he was there, I didn't need to hold him up! This is the first time Arthur's supported himself while standing, so I'd say it's a milestone achieved.
Arthur finished off the orzo-grits-lentil dish for the first course of his afternoon snack. Afterwards, he had about half of an omelette I made. This one was just an egg scrambled with paprika, onion powder, and pizza seasoning, cooked in a lot of garlic-infused olive oil, and filled with a slice of old Dutch cheese. Arthur liked this one quite a bit more than the last omelette, and who can blame him - it was cheesy and garlicky! He still seemed a bit hungry after I put the food away, so I gave him a few pieces of these sweet potato chips I had picked up at the Asian store the last time I was there. These were a little bit harder than I would've liked, so Arthur had some difficulty with them, but he was crazy about the taste, and kept grunting for more. So I guess it was a good dessert!

Unfortunately, all that food didn't put Arthur into a food coma, and he wanted to spend his 3:00 nursing session biting my nipple instead of napping. Just as I was wondering if he's over his afternoon naps, in a typical Arthur move, he fell asleep during the last 10 minutes of his 4:00 walk with Miklós.
So, that meant we were taking a fairly sleep-deprived little bug with us on our big date out! We had decided, after the success of Taco Bell, to actually go out to eat with Arthur. In part, we were celebrating being offered a contract for what looks to be our future home! We'll know for sure next week, but we were due a restaurant trip anyways, and this was a very good reason to celebrate.

So, we took Arthur off to Dadawan! He got to sit on the patio in front of the restaurant in his first restaurant high chair. Miklós and I were a bit nervous by how little the high chair seemed to hold Arthur in, but we kept a close watch on him, and it did the job. And honestly, despite the lack of napping, Arthur was great there! We were right across the street from the station, and Arthur was fascinated by all the hustle and bustle around him. In fact, he was more interested in his surroundings than in the food I gave him - a zucchini-pea-potato purée and some more of the sweet potato chips. He also had a ball playing with the binder clip I had used to close the chip bag. So it was another very positive restaurant experience with Arthur - we may take him to another one!
So, on Friday, Arthur ate:
peach
Mama’s Yum-Yum (whole-wheat orzo, corn grits, red lentils, toasted sesame oil, garlic-infused olive oil, green onion, yellow bell pepper purée, ginger powder, onion powder)
Mamalette (egg, paprika, onion powder, pizza seasoning, garlic-infused olive oil, old cheese)
sweet potato chips
baby food purée (potato, pea, zucchini)
The adults, of course, had a proper restaurant dinner on Friday! I did make another pasta salad for Thursday's dinner, but I first want to post the quick roll recipe I made to go with the quark salad earlier this week. It's the Greek yogurt dough that's all over the internet, and I've made it a number of times when I wanted fresh, homemade bread to go with a dish. It's incredibly simple, and barely a recipe - basically you need equal parts (by weight) Greek yogurt (or blended cottage cheese/quark/skyr), flour, and baking powder. I usually add a bit of salt as well. This time, I used 130g each yogurt and flour, but I've done it with larger and smaller quantities as well. Here's how I made them:
Quick Yogurt Rolls (makes 2 medium rolls)

Ingredients
130g flour of choice (I've used white spelt, whole wheat spelt, and oat flour successfully)
130g Greek yogurt (you can sub skyr, quark, or blended cottage cheese)
1 tsp baking powder
a pinch of salt (optional)
optional add-ins of choice (e.g. nuts, seeds, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, raisins, blueberries, chocolate chips, etc.)
Instructions
Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
Stir in the Greek yogurt, mixing until combined. The dough should be firm enough that you can roll it with your hands.
Add in any mix-ins you want.
Flour your hands, if needed, and mix the dough with your hands a couple more times.
Roll the dough into two balls.
Cook in the air fryer (or oven) at 160 degrees Celsius for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Enjoy warm!
