Thursday

Once again, Arthur’s morning had two starts to it: the first, when he woke up at around 6:00, and the second once again at 7:15. The morning had its ups and downs, with a lot of reaching both for my boobs and his crotch. Sometimes he’ll grab at it even after his diaper is changed and it’s covered in clothes; it’s really cute.

Given his 11:00 nursing session took place after a bath, and his father was at home, I figured Arthur’s chances of going down for a nap were good. But alas, such was not the case. Ah well, at least he got a full sleep cycle in when Miklós took him for a midday walk!

And he was quite a sweet little dude afterwards. He nearly went into hysterics watching me dance in the kitchen, spent quite a while happily placing tennis balls in various locations, and sidling up to me with his face all scrunched up in a big grin. I think he almost said Mama, too - at least, it really seemed like he was trying to!

Arthur didn’t get a second nap in, but remained quite sweet and easygoing through most of the evening. Towards bedtime, he started getting a tiny bit fussy, but after such a good day, he was due a bit of grumping. All in all, a successful Thursday!

Friday

Arthur had a couple of wakeups on Friday - the first before 5, then around 6, and then finally at 7:20. I wonder if something's going on with him - he was pretty fussy for most of the morning. And when the poor guy tried to soothe himself by fondling his wiener during diaper changes, his parents prevented even that comfort. He leads a miserable life.

Arthur's day was only going to get worse: he had an appointment at the Consultatie Bureau, one involving shots. The doctor said everything seemed on track with him, and was happy with his development. He's been growing like crazy, too - he's just surpassed 10kg and 80cm, and his growth curve had quite an uptick - in fact, now he's in the 83rd percentile for height and the 56th for weight, jumping up percentiles in both categories! Holy moly, go, Arthur!!

However, they did find a very slight heart murmur when they took his pulse. Miklós and I both panicked, of course - in fact, I nearly passed out. But the doctor assured us that it's very common in young children, and given we don't have any family history, is probably nothing to worry about, and will go away on its own. Further research online corroborates her statement, so I'm feeling a bit better now, maybe. We'll get it checked again in Tilburg.

The vaccinations went as well as could be expected; this was Arthur's first time getting vaccines in his arms instead of his legs, which will apparently be the norm from here on out. And while there was a moment of screaming and crying, Arthur calmed down very quickly, so he took it like a champ! And when we got home at 12:30, he was able to take a nice (albeit somewhat short) nap on me while nursing.

Arthur had his adorable and his fussy moments throughout the afternoon. After the scare at the doctor, however, I just wanted to squeeze him and cuddle him and nuzzle his little face, so I think he was pretty happy about that; he had Mama's full attention! No nap during his afternoon walk with Miklós but I guess that just means he'll (hopefully) sleep well tonight!

No new recipes the past couple of days - Friday was ready-made meals and Thursday I made another batch of roasted carrot salad. This time, I skipped the parsley, but it was still so so good! But there's a snack I've made a few times, including last night, that I haven't posted yet. It's crazy simple yet crazy delicious And when I say it's three ingredients, I actually mean three - it's not one of those recipes where they claim to have just a couple of ingredients but that's not including x, y, and z. It could even easily be two ingredients - I added salt because I like a bit of it in all my sweets, but it's not strictly necessary. The recipe itself is based off of this Instagram post. I've made it with almond flour and walnut flour, and both versions were great! Even Arthur loves it. So cool that fruit + nuts can make something like that. Here's how I make it:

Single-Serve 3-Ingredient Banana Nut Soft Cookie

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana (I usually pop mine in the air fryer for a few minutes to get really gooey and sweet)

  • 6 tbsp nut flour of choice (I can vouch for almond and walnut flour both being delicious here)

  • pinch of salt (optional)

  • mix-ins of choice (optional, I've never added any, but I bet chocolate chips or shredded coconut would be good here!)

Instructions

  1. Mash the banana until full-on mush.

  2. Add in the nut flour and salt.

  3. Mix and mash until fully combined.

  4. Roll into a ball, then flatten onto a small piece of parchment paper.

  5. Cook in the air fryer at 180 degrees Celsius for 10-15 minutes, until it starts to get brown on the edges.

  6. Enjoy warm!
