Monday

Arthur woke his father up on his 40th birthday at 6:45. It was a morning full of playing with his grandparents, eating a lot, and sitting in the stroller. I didn’t end up nursing him for the second time until nearly noon, at which point Arthur crashed pretty quickly. I wasn’t complaining; it gave me a little bit of “me” time. He didn’t sleep for super long - maybe 40 minutes or so - but it was definitely something!

Afterwards, we went on a walk to St. Pietserberg, where Arthur made some charming shrieks as his grandparents pushed him in the stroller. At the restaurant we went to, Arthur wasn’t content to eat Cheerios one at a time, but tried to suck them from the jar like they were a drink. He’s getting to be quite the little piggy - explains how he jumped up 27 weight percentile points!

Then Arthur helped us toast his father’s birthday, and gift him presents, before we were off to dinner! At the restaurant we went to, Arthur tasted a bit of everyone’s dinner: caramelized chicory, regular and sweet potato fries, steak, mushrooms, and berries. He was pretty happy to be eating the same foods as everyone else! Then it was back home for a somewhat late bedtime for bonzo, who quickly crashed.

Tuesday

Well, Tuesday started off rough. Arthur woke up a little after 5, and was full-on screaming. It’s not uncommon for him to wake up around this time and go right back to sleep, but this felt worse. My hunch is it had something to do with his grandparents opening the door and going out to use the bathroom with the lights on.

Miklós was able to put him back to sleep, but the little dude woke up again one sleep cycle later, a bit after 6:00. I took him to my bed and we snuggled there for a while; I really thought he was going to go back to sleep for a while there. He was yawning, sighing, and his eyes were closed as he held me tight. But he gradually started opening his eyes, babbling, and finally fidgeting, so no rest for the wicked.

Arthur was somewhat fussy throughout the morning, probably due to his shorter night of sleep. Still, when his nagymama took him on an hour and a half walk a bit after 10:00, he didn’t nap a wink. So naturally when I popped him on my boob at a quarter to noon, he fell asleep almost instantly, where he slept for probably an hour.

The adults, meanwhile, were not sleeping, but busy packing, disassembling furniture, and running errands. And, in Nagymama’s case, entertaining the bug. Arthur grew pretty fussy towards the evening; I think he was pretty beat after such an early morning and only one nap. I ended up nursing him right before dinner, as well as afterwards, just to calm him down.

By the time we all ate dinner, he was really losing it - I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him so worked up for an extended period of time. I think it was pure exhaustion and the long day, without a lot of Mama interaction (or am I giving myself too much credit here?) Either way, we were all relieved when it was his bedtime. He put up a bit of a fight going to bed, but when he finally did go down, he went down hard, and, hopefully, for a very long time. We all needed a good night’s sleep.

Wednesday

Well, at least on Wednesday, Arthur slept "in" until 6:30. He enjoyed multiple breakfasts wtih multiple people before Nagymama took him on a nice long walk. Apparently, Arthur was very interested in everything going on around him, so he didn't sleep in the stroller, but made up for it when I nursed him a bit before noon. Same ol', same ol'. He must have been tired, though, because he slept for nearly an hour and a half before my dropping something woke him up.

I guess all that napping worked up a big appetite, because Arthur had quite a big lunch with his nagymama. It probably also didn't hurt that it was a later lunch than he's used to. Afterwards, she whisked him off in the troller in the hopes that he would go into a food coma and we wouldn't have a repeat of yesterday. No such luck, but at least he wasn't as upset as he was the previous evening. I guess the extra long nap earlier helped.

Meanwhile, Miklós and Nagypapa were taking the majority of our funiture to Tilburg in a big moving van. It was a long and arduous job, and they didn't get back until late. So I ended up putting Arthur to sleep before they got home. It took him a hot minute to fall asleep, but he did get there eventually, and was absolutely silent once I put him down. So at least it wasn't a long day for him, even if it was for the rest of us.

No cooking these past few days - Monday was of course a celebratory restaurant experience, and we've all been so busy the past couple of days that we haven't had time to cook (nor the tools to do so - most of our cookware is packed away). So today's recipe is one I made over a month ago and just haven't gotten around to posting. It was based off of this Instagram post, and turned out great - another nice, simple, sweetener-free snack! I don't think I changed much about it, other than adding salt. Here's how I made it:

Single-Serve Banana Yogurt Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana (I made mine extra ripe in the air fryer)

  • 150g Greek yogurt

  • 1 egg

  • 3 tbsp vanilla whey protein

  • pinch of salt (optional, not in the original recipe)

Instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 160 degrees Celsius.

  2. Mash that banana thoroughly!

    1. First option: do this directly in the mug or baking dish you want to bake it in (which I did - I'm lazy and like to skip steps)

    2. Second option: do this in a separate bowl, and line your mug/ramekin with parchment paper so it's not as messy.

  3. Add the remaining ingredients, and mix until combined.

  4. Transfer to a mug or baking dish, if going with option b. Otherwise, you are good!

  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes; it's done when the center is firm and a fork comes out cleanly with a bit of moisture.

  6. Cool completely, and ideally refrigerate for at least an hour or two to firm up a bit!

  7. Eat up!
