Day 11 + Banana PB Mug Cake
Arthur slept in until nearly 7:20 on Thursday - it was great! He was fairly laid-back throughout the morning, except during breakfast, when he had an absolutely gargantuan appetite. It's so interesting how some foods will be completely unappealing to him at one meal, and a huge hit at the next one. I will say, he was much more into his skillet pizza and yogurt today than he was yesterday! Or maybe he was just hungry enough.
The usual lack of a nap when I nursed him at 11, but to be fair, he didn't seem as tired as he usually is at that time. When I took him for his midday walk, however, he crashed within 10 minutes, waking up only briefly when a "dog" started yipping before falling right back asleep. Once again, Arthur slept for pretty much exactly 40 minutes in the stroller, and, once again, he continued sleeping when I popped him on the boob when he woke up! Go, Arthur! This time, however, he only napped for another few minutes before my shifting position woke him up fully and he didn't go back to sleep.

Arthur had less of an appetite at lunchtime; maybe he was still full from his massive breakfast. Afterwards, we spent some time playing upstairs. Arthur remains unsure of but fascinated by his singing cactus; he kept holding it out to me to turn it on, but then held it at arm's distance while looking at it skeptically while it regaled him with children's songs. His current obsession is a book called I Want My Hat Back, and he's been handing it to me to read over and over and over again. It's a great book, but I have to say, I'm rather sick of it at this point. He grew pretty demanding as the afternoon wore on, and at one point started crying when I didn't read him yet another book. I guess as far as things to fuss about, that's a pretty good one, though.
It was pretty cute, too - later on, we were having a late afternoon snack, and while Arthur was a bit picky with his own food, if I fed him something from my plate, he devoured it. This included sautéed mushrooms, which I think he would have been iffy about otherwise. But watching closely to see that I was putting the same thing in my mouth, he happily munched on them along with me. I guess it really is true about kids learning through imitation. Though at dinnertime, he kept grunting for my own meal, and when I caved and gave him some of my roasted carrot, he chewed it up and spat it out. Nice, Arthur.
As for our final bedtime without Papa? Quick, easy, and tear-free! What a champ, Boobookins. Bedtime was definitely what I was most nervous about with Miklós's absence, and Arthur has taken the change like a champ. And tomorrow, Papa's home to take over!
Another day, another banana recipe! This one was based on another CCK recipe, but I wasn't paying close enough attention to the ingredients, because instead of using 2 tsp of mashed banana, I used a full banana. I also tweaked a couple of other things, such as subbing carob for cocoa, because I'm trying not to have caffeine right before bed. But it turned out awesome; it tasted more banana-y than peanut butter-y, but the texture was gooey and delightful, and I think the extra sweetener she added is completely unnecessary with so much sweetness from the banana. Here's how I made it:
Single-Serve Banana Peanut Mug Cake

Ingredients
1 overripe banana
3 tbsp powdered peanut butter (honestly, I didn't really taste the peanut-taste very much, so this could probably easily be swapped for oat flour or vegan protein powder or a smaller quantity of coconut flour)
2 tbsp cocoa/carob powder
3 tbsp milk of choice (I used protein soy)
a pinch of baking powder (I forgot this, and it was great without it)
a pinch of salt
a splash of vanilla extract
Instructions
If your banana isn't ripe enough, stick it in the air fryer at 175 degrees Celsius until the skin is black, about 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway.
Mash that banana really well in a mug.
Add the other ingredients, and mix until everything is combined.
Microwave your mug for 1½ minutes.
Enjoy warm! Or cool, really - it's your choice.
